Friday 27th: After only an hour of sleep before getting up to get the early flight out, I arrived tis morning feeling pretty knackered. What looked like moderate, mushy conditions, turned out to be pretty worthwhile surf...with a lip peaking at 5-6ft and throwing a little in sections. The thing about the wave that has struck me isthe power and with only 2.5 inch side fins I found myself kick flipping on the bottom turns...definately need to put bigger fins on!...high tide has wiped out the Mundaka wave so I maybe off to check out Bakio this evening.
Saturday 28th: Really small, mushy surf meant difficult and frustrating conditions for everyone! After waiting for the tide to drop, the competition kicked off at about 11am. I managed to make the most of the poor surf getting a couple of nice rides, which was enough to win the heat and go through to the quarter finals. However, deteorating conditions meant that by heat 7 the competition was postponed until the surf gets competable!...may be a while!... so late afternoon, a load of us headed to Bakio, where surprisingly the surf was pretty awesome. about 3-4ft really clean and fun (pics coming soon!)...why couldnt they move the comp to there??!!...tomorrow's forecast is worse than today so who knows whats gonna happen....watch this space!
Sunday 29th
Quarter Finals: conditions got even worse overnight so the decision was made to move to Bakio. There were waves...of sorts!...but very small and powerless. I felt like I had a good heat for the conditions but was pushed down into 3rd place (maybe an interferance against me...ooops!) so down and out....a disapointing result but it gave me the afternoon to move to the other end of the beach and find some better waves.
Dave Jaggs...the recovery!...travelling with Dave provided endless entertainment as he moved through various stages of hangover...pictures and comentary coming soon!
